‘Homeland’ season 3: Boss explains ‘rough patch’ for Carrie and Saul
It is hard to debate the simple notion that “Homeland” season 3 has really wanted there to be tension between Carrie and Saul at all times … even when there is not any. The first three episodes provided the most infuriating moment in the history of the show, when the writers decided for whatever reason that it would be a good idea for there to be some drama where there really wasn’t any at all.
But now, there is some sort of real conflict in that Saul hid the Brody mission from Carrie until after he returned to him, and it took some convincing on his part to ensure her that it really was the best thing to do to send off Brody to Iran as the new x factor in ensuring that Javadi could rise to power.
Speaking about all of this to TV Guide, series architect Alex Gansa explains the various reasons why the two are at odds right now, and also does not really give too much in the way of hope that this can be worked out anytime soon:
“Secrets are being kept from each other and plans and agendas and motivations are being withheld … Even though they were in cahoots at the beginning of the season, their relationship has frayed somewhat … This a bit of a rocky patch for both of them.”
It may be the end of the season until tensions between the two are finally resolved, but they need to be fixed in some ways before them. These two are on a race against time with Lockhart’s confirmation looming (even after Saul’s blackmailing of him), and there is only so much time left before they don’t have any real power at all to make moves for national security. Do you think that this guy is really going to let Saul and Carrie do anything after the whole “locked in a room” business?
