‘American Horror Story: Coven’ episode 6 spoilers: The Axeman and a ‘Newsroom’ star

The latest -We’ve learned already that “American Horror Story: Coven” is occasionally fond of its flashbacks, and we are about to see yet another one on the new episode airing on Wednesday night courtesy of a famed villain from the late 1910s: The Axeman of New Orleans.

In case you missed it earlier this week, we presented what is the short version of this character’s story, and how he was an actual terror in the city for a time. Now, let’s dive into more of how he will be involved in the show. The character is played by Danny Huston (“Magic City”), and according to E! News, we will first see the character in 1919, which is right around the time that the Axeman briefly resurfaced and strangely threatened people to go and listen to jazz music in order to spare them their lives.

Just in case that wasn’t enough for you, how about an appearance from a guest star that was kept a mystery until now? During this flashback, expect to also see Grace Gummer, who was known for playing Hallie, the reporter-turned love interest for Jim, on “The Newsroom” season 2, in the flashback, as well. (Of course, you may also know Gummer as Mamie Gummer’s sister and Meryl Streep’s daughter.)

All of this sounds like an exciting introduction to the character, but there is an ominous elephant in the room that needs to be asked: Are we going to see the Axeman transported to the present-day? Unless he is brought forward by one of the witches or Lavaeu, there almost does not seem to be a reason to bring up the story unless you are desperate to cram as much New Orleans history into the episode as possible.

Excited about this episode of “American Horror Story” as we are? Then share some of your thoughts below! We’ll have a preview for the next new episode up a little later tonight, so be sure to stay tuned for a little bit more on that. (Personally, we’re hoping for more than one episode from the Axeman given his stature as a character.)
