Ratings: ‘Grimm’ season 3 and ‘Dracula’ start solid; ‘The Carrie Diaries’ kicks off low

The latest -For the first time in quite a while, NBC learned on Friday that they don’t have to have either “The Voice” or NFL football on their schedule in order for their night as a whole to be a win. The network was hoping for something solid out of their Friday-night lineup, and they more or less got it for at least a week.

For “Grimm,” getting a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic was in our mind slightly better than expected, given that it did have “Shark Tank” (2.0) serving as its primary competition. “Grimm” is almost a lock for a fourth season in the first place thanks largely to syndication, but getting these sort of numbers all season would make it a lock anyway. Remember here that “Grimm” is a solid contributor in DVR viewing, and will likely gain a good bit of its audience from that.

Meanwhile, “Dracula” had a start that, all things considered, was worth celebrating. It had the same rating as “Grimm,” and that is despite airing at a time in which most people are either out partying doing something with friends. There’s a reason that Fridays at 10:00 are rarely programmed with anything at all that appeals to young viewers: They’re not watching TV at that time. While this is being billed only as a 10-episode limited series, we wonder already if that plan could change if it keeps most of these viewers and also posts great DVR figures. (We don’t think that the show will keep all of that audience, though, given that the pilot was really just so-so at best.)

Now, the bad news: No one is watching “The Carrie Diaries.” While it can argue that it is getting the same rating on Friday that it did on Mondays last spring, a 0.3 is still a 0.3 and ties it with “Beauty and the Beast” for the worst show on the network’s schedule. Given the strength of some of the network’s other shows, and that “Hart of Dixie” likely has syndication on its side, this show, “Reign,” and “Beauty and the Beast” all have to be shaking in their boots for at least the time being.
