‘The Bridge’ finale spoilers: Final details, and a Matthew Lillard – season 2 plea
Tonight marks the end for “The Bridge” (for now) on FX, and there are many questions worth asking: Will the ending be satisfactory, and will the cliffhanger for season 2 keep us engaged? We’re hoping that the answer to both of these questions is going to be a resounding “yes.”
But before we do anything else, can we start off here with a simple plea for the episodes ahead? We want to see a promotion for Matthew Lillard to series regular; we don’t know for sure just how it will happen so that his character of Daniel can stick around, but he’s been fantastic all year. Heck, he’s been Emmy-worthy in the guest-star category beyond a shadow of a doubt. He is the sort of character actor that has always been one of the best at what he does, but never gets the recognition for it. Here’s to hoping that will change.
Daniel will be a part of tonight’s finale, but he is not mentioned in the official synopsis below. Instead, the focus is more on some other characters including Sonya and Marco, who continue to search for Eva, and also Charlotte making a key revelation that could put her back firmly against the wall:
“Sonya and Marco search for a missing girl. Charlotte meets someone who knows too much about her new business venture. Marco makes a decision that could change everything.”
Given the nature of this series, it is best to enter the finale with an “expect nothing” sort of philosophy in mind. Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir are probably the only two actors who are safe, and the story could evolve into either something that builds for next year, or something that ends abruptly and leaves the door open for a new major plot to take over in summer 2014.
