ABC’s ‘Mistresses’ finale spoilers: A ‘happy’ birthday party?

Want to take another look at the “Mistresses” finale on Monday night? A picture can say a thousand words, but to us this new photo probably has more then a million subtexts.

On the surface, you see something fun and lighthearted. A birthday party. These people have to be enjoying it, right? Well, maybe; we’ve learned over the course of this show that brave faces and ulterior motives run rampant, and you need to almost have them at times to be able to do some of the immoral things featured often here. Just like everything else in this episode, don’t expect to see this birthday party have everything go according to plan.

What we are probably most curious about at the moment is this: Will the producers opt to go for a cliffhanger ending almost as a dare to ABC to bring the show back for another season? Based on the ratings over the course of the season, it’s not going to have an easy time coming back for more unless some sort of 11th-hour push or ratings jump takes place. (Personally, we still stand by our belief to give it another chance, based on recent ratings alone.) When you have a following that is this passionate, aren’t these the sort of people that you really want to nurture? We would think so, but only time will tell if this actually happens.
