ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6 spoilers: Creator on Castle, Beckett, and sacrifice
Speaking about some of the circumstances that await Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic’s characters this coming season, executive producer Andrew Marlowe had the following to say as a part of a new interview with TV Guide:
“There are four possible outcomes and each of them have their own particular consequences. There’s no version of this that’s easy and that they live happily ever after — even with the good stuff … How can she make any choice without giving something up? She’ll have to sacrifice something,”
If you map out the scenarios, it basically goes as follows.
1. If Beckett takes the job and says yes to Castle’s proposal, then the two have to manage being engaged without seeing each other on a frequent basis.
2. If Beckett takes the job and says no to the proposal, she is less encumbered … but also miserable.
3. If Beckett doesn’t take the job and says yes to the proposal, there’s possible resentment about the career that could have been.
4. If Beckett doesn’t take the job and says no … well, we would throw popcorn at our TV in confusion.

I try to stay away from interviews and spoilers because all of the speculation makes me insane especially when its not what I want to hear but I fell off the wagon and went on FB today and OMG! This cryptic interview by Marlowe and some other interview has some fans speculating that Beckett says “NO” and some detective is coming on board to shake things up! WTH???????? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sufficed to say I have fallen victim to the negative speculation while at the same time telling myself ‘MARLOWE wouldn’t do that; would he?’ So here’s me talking myself out of the CASKETT negativity.
For BECKETT to say NO would not be logical at this point and thus far MARLOWE has stuck to logic. He has made CASKETT work while maintaining the crime aspect of the show. If he has BECKETT saying NO then we have OFFICIALLY ventured into the realm of the MOONLIGHTING CURSE! Like someone else said CASTLE WAS GONNA TAKE A BOMB FOR BECKETT ANDDDDDDDD HE GOT DOWN ON ONE KNEE; BECKETT BETTER SAY YES; LOL! Castle said “whatever happens” meaning he was not asking her to choose; instead implying if you take the job I’m still here and we will make it work. So with that I don’t get why she would say NO. However, I’ve watched shows like CSI Miami where the head writer did a straight 180 made no logical sense whatsoever moonlighting overdose straight lied in interviews about the SHIP COUPLE. I say all that to say that MARLOWE has never done anything remotely like that thus far with CASKETT and I’m hoping he doesn’t start in the S6 Premiere! I’M GOING BACK ON THE WAGON OF NO MORE CASKETT FACEBOOKING, CASKETT SPOILERS OR MARLOWE INTERVIEWS!

Kate, I am sure will say – yes to Castle. Come on now, where is she going to find a man who will put up with all of her emotional indecision and holding back (secrets) – like Castle has. Kate is strong headed and not always right, in her choices, and I have a feeling that Kate is going to meet up with Castle’s father down, the road – this may be the turning point for Beckett (the story of a father, who missed out on his son’s life because of his career). Of course we will watch her push Castle away, and then pull Castle close throughout the season as she tries to figure out her new job. My question is… how or will we get an honest view of how the birth of Jenny and Ryan’s child affects Kate? She can’t ignore her clock too much longer… so there will be questions on her part, if only to herself and/ or to Lanie about choices. I hope Marlowe lets us in … to see this side of Kate, a side of Kate that Marlowe has held back except for a few odd statements here and there to Castle over the last 5 seasons. See you all in September for what will be a Great Season 6

I agree, this show has evolved into the Beckett show, and rightly so. She is the talent the person who brings her ‘A- game’ to each episode. Marlowe is no dummy. Allow Beckett to take the DC job. I tired of Nathan’s goofiness long ago. Were it not for the presence of Stana this show would be history for me. Nathan is no actor. He is not even a good performer. I can certainly understand why his other shows failed, it he indeed was the lead.

I disagree. I think that the Nathan Fillion is a very good actor and that it’s been the writing that has let the show down. Why does he seem to have a full life in the earlier seasons but now seem to only exist to work at the precinct. He used to know many people outside of that and it sparked a lot of interesting interludes. The poker games, his real job as a writer and what that entails, the mayor, etc. How did Stana suddenly become a Cindy Crawford look alike with every man every wanting her and then in addition she suddenly has a wardrobe of designer clothes and a huge apartment with this incredible savvy when just a couple of years earlier she had none of those things? She was just this cute average cop confronted with a celebrity character that she idolized. I think that’s when the fun left the show. I watch the Castle character now and just feel sorry for him. He has no life and everyone has left or is leaving him. He started out being someone that the guys watching wanted to be and has now been written into a pathetic loser that no one wants to be. Even Esposito looks down on him and his poorly written jokes.

Boy I don’t know what is about Marlowe these days but from the last 3 episodes of last season to what I’ve heard so far about season 6 he sure seems to think the show is called “Beckett”. Everything seems to revolve around her & it’s always the Beckett character who seems to hold all of the cards. Oh poor Beckett must choose between a job it was never even hinted at in 5 years that she desires or the guy that refused to leave her side while she stood on a bomb.

I think it’s a smart move, necessary to save the show. Without the quality of Stana & the supporting cast, and the writers (except for a few terribly written episodes), there would be only Firefly fans left watching the show. There is a reason why Nathan’s previous shows all bombed: he’s not a very good serious actor, he’s a one-trick pony whose “comedy” acting very quickly gets annoying to most people.

Also, just because Beckett didn’t actively voice her desire for a new job doesn’t mean that:
I) she hasn’t privately considered the possibility (we know she’s good at her job & ambitious, and also not good at communicating her innermost thoughts); or
II) she would ever have turned it down if she was offered the opportunity. (I’ve never told anybody that I’d like £1m – but if I was offered it, do you think I’d turn it down?)

A writers job is to try as humanly possible to develop full characters, I think this is what he has tried to do. The show is called Castle… yes, but shows fall flat when central characters are developed and theme are not played out. If Stana and Nathan stay put for what we will see Season 10 you I am sure will be happy. Relationships as I am sure you know are complicated, with sacrifices on the part of both partners, and Kate is still working out who she is after solving her mothers case. I am sure that we will have just as much Castle driving Becket crazy and her doing the same with Castle.
Take heart! The Fat Lady so to speak isn’t singing yet for Castle or for Kate as the crime fighting dual.

If Beckett takes the job, Castle can’t work with her. If they don’t work together, then why do you watch this show?

I’d watch Beckett investigating cases without Castle, whether she was in NY or DC… Alexis and Martha have had a handful of good scenes in 5 years but mainly they’re just annoying. And pretty much only Firefly fans rate Nathan as an actor: I certainly don’t.
