ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6: Nathan Fillion currently in midst of contract dispute

Typically when you hear stories about Nathan Fillion and “Castle,” they are of the positive variety. He is one of the first people to thank the crew at every awards show that he attends, is great to his fans, and there is a reason that Joss Whedon and many other people enjoy working with him on a regular basis.

With all of this in mind, the negative backlash surrounding this report is somewhat surprising. According to Deadline, production was halted on the ABC series on Friday, with the primary reason for it being an extensive contract dispute between Fillion and the show’s producers at ABC Studios over his hours. He is asking for a four-day work week, and this was a nudge to show them just where he stands on that matter.

Yes, we understand the people out there saying that he is ungrateful, a heel, or whining when so many other people would love the job. But let’s put it this way: The man works longer hours than any member of the cast, and probably clocks more hours within four days than most average employees to in five. Plus, he has also been with the show for six years, and over that span of time, you can become tired and feel interested in a change. This may simply be a trade-off in a way for staying on board the show, as he has always expressed a desire in the past to have shows end quickly rather than drag on forever.

At the end of the day, we know that you will make whatever judgment about him that you want, but compared to some contract demands that we’ve heard over the years, this one is not really that far into the realm of the insane.
