‘Supernatural’ season 9: How Misha Collins spent his summer vacation
As someone who is an avid Nerdist Podcast listener, imagine our joy a few weeks ago when we started getting a feeling that there was an episode coming up featuring “Supernatural’s” Misha Collins; and to have this episode pop up on the week of the Fourth of July, a week when there is so little else going on when it comes to new programming, was more or less a match made in geek heaven.
You can listen to the full (and rather lengthy) interview between Collins and Chris Hardwick here, and there are quite a few interesting topics broached, from the way in which the actor first got his start in show business to joining “Supernatural” to how he feels now about directing an episode on the show’s upcoming ninth season. While there are no plot spoilers present here, you don’t really need them when you consider all of the other cool topics touched on, including how he reacts to fans who know the show better than he does, people who ship Castiel and Dean, and how he feels now about playing a character whose voice is lower than his own natural register.
This podcast was actually recorded earlier this May in a Scottish castle, where the two were taking part in a reward for GISHWHES, the world’s largest scavenger hunt that also doubles as a way to raise a great deal of money for charity. But like we said, we’re glad that Hardwick waited to release it until now, a time when we were crying out for “Supernatural” news, and when there’s hardly little else to entertain ourselves with save for marathons of old shows.
Production is getting close to starting up on “Supernatural” season 9, and if you haven’t heard too much about that just yet, our suggestion is to check out this story here.

There’s a mistake on the report – they were NOT taking part on GISHWHES. They were on the trip awarded as prize to the winning team of GISHWHES, as Chris’ wife was a member.
And like MN said, Misha spent his summer vacation finishing work on the orphanage he built in Jacmel, Haiti via his charity, Random Acts.

The podcast was amazing. It’s nice to listen Misha speak about his charity and gishwhes. It’s amazing how he can inspire people to do better in life and help others in the process. My love for Mr.Collins keeps growing as I learn more about him and his life. Always loved Castiel but it seems like I’m beginning to love Misha more.

I love this article! That podcast with Misha and Chris Hardwick was amazing! Every time that Misha says or does something new, I just love him more and more. He’s just so amazing, and inspirational! I really to hope to be a part of GISHWHES myself this year. It sounds like it was such a wonderful event, and for a good cause too!
I loved everything Misha had to say about Supernatural, and I’m so very happy that he will be a regular in Season 9 again! Castiel is my favorite character on that show and the episodes without him just don’t shine quite as bright for me. I love how he seems to really try to understand and respect his fans, including those that “ship” Dean and Castiel together, and fandom in general. The way he spoke about it being a community just really was spot on for me.
And since the title of this article was about how he spent his summer vacation, I guess I’m not too out of line in saying that he also spent a good portion of his summer vacation in Haiti with the opening of the Jacmel Children’s Center that he and his charity Random Acts and all their great volunteers helped to build and make possible.
So for people that don’t like Misha Collins, for whatever reason, just stop a minute and realize that this man literally spent his summer vacation building an orphanage for children in Haiti to have a home. I don’t understand how anyone could dislike Misha.
