‘So You Think You Can Dance’ goes way of ‘American Idol,’ introduces ‘SuperVote’
For those of you hoping to see “So You Think You Can Dance” borrow one of the more polarizing parts of the “American Idol” voting process, you are in luck: The show has just decided to bring in the “SuperVote” for the start of the upcoming live shows on Tuesday night.
In case you are wondering just what this vote is, or what it does, the answer is pretty simple: The SuperVote gives you the opportunity to vote multiple times for your favorite contestant via the show’s official site, the FOX NOW app, or Facebook. This is a nifty way for people to vote online who don’t have a great deal of time on their hands, but there is also a caveat: Does the SuperVote in some ways negate the votes of the people who obsessively call in? They certainly make it harder for one guy calling in a hundred times to have an impact, that much is for sure.
All in all, this is still a good thing for the series in that it makes them appear as though they have many more votes than they really do. Another interesting part of “So You Think You Can Dance” this season is that we are really not sure that any one dancer is being pegged an overwhelming favorite. Some are pulling in a great deal of support, but this is the sort of show where the public really does get behind great dancers, and they tend to go far. Say what you will last season about Cyrus Spencer, but he was a guy that put in the work despite a lack of experience in some styles.
