‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: That confrontation happens early…

When you look back at the official “Dexter” season 8 trailer that was released earlier this spring, one of the moments that definitely caught our eye was watching Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) slam new character / criminologist Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) against some metal siding. Why is he so upset? It seems as though he’s threatened by her and whatever sort of knowledge that she possesses, but it could be more than that. Maybe he thinks that she’ll sing like a canary, or maybe she didn’t bring in the customary box of donuts on the first day.

Either way, what we were surprised to learn about this week is that this photo (and this scene) are actually from the first episode of the season. Dexter gets this upset at Vogel straight out of the gate? We found this surprising, mostly because Dexter is traditionally somewhat meticulous when it comes to getting information from people and trying to figure out who they really are.

Then again, this sort of rash act could be indicative of the sort of person that Dexter is now becoming this late in the game. He’s clearly flown off the rails ever since he first met Hannah McKay, and the code has mattered less and less to him. This is made all the more interesting here since Evelyn, per Showtime’s own words, helped Harry design the code years ago, and she will certainly remember who Dexter is just based on last name alone.
