‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Zach Galifianakis disrobes for Jason Sudeikis
After a couple of weeks off the air, “Saturday Night Live” is getting ready to enter the home stretch of the season with some exciting choices for their hosts. Over the next three weeks we have a trio of hosts in Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, and Ben Affleck with plenty of experience already between them, and in starting things off, Zach is definitely going for the “awkward guy” angle.
If there is one underlying criticism that we have of the show’s first promo (which you can see below), it is that some of the jokes ultimately take a little bit of time before reaching their conclusion. However, they are nonetheless really rather funny once they get there. The gag about switching letters around has a nice ending, and Zach proves with a certain bit involving a robe that he is really unafraid to make fun of himself on any level. Can you see Justin Bieber trying to pull something off like this?
Speaking of Justin Bieber, he and Taylor Lautner also end up playing a part here for a bit involving fingernails. Zach is joined by cast member Jason Sudeikis for the promos, which is perfect given that he has made a living playing either the cool or the smarmy guy. If we were to use the “Hangover” analogy here, he is basically the show’s version of an Ed Helms character.
We just hope that Galifianakis really gets the opportunity that he deserves to show off his intelligence and his wackiness. The last two shows hosted by the actor have been funny at times, but also underwhelming thanks to the material.
What do you think about this promo, and are you pumped to see what Zach does with the show? If you want to also read more about Affleck and Wiig coming on board as hosts, you can do so over at the link here.
