NBC’s ‘Revolution’ review: Did Aaron have a happy reunion?

Revolution LogoLet’s face it: In between the finales of “Bones” and “The Following,” this was a pretty depressing night of dramatic television. So what did we have to try and cheer us up after all of this was over? “Revolution,” and you had to know that this was not going to end particularly well. This is not exactly a series known for providing sunshine and rainbows, and often we find ourselves feeling frustrating by the time it is over.

The positive thing about this episode was simply that the Charlie story was a little bit more subdued, and what we had instead was really backstory into Miles / Emma / Monroe, and also Aaron receiving an interesting blast from the past.

From this standpoint, we were especially happy to see the Aaron story involving his former wife just based on the fact that it was emotional the first time that we heard it, and it stayed emotional yet again as he found her, quickly realizing that she was in need of his help as a fugitive. This gave him a chance for atonement after abandoning her so many years ago, and he took advantage of the opportunity. It turns out that she is wanted for murder by the Monroe Republic, but it also turns out that she does have a family. It was a sad end to a couple that we wanted to see back together, and perhaps the only solace that we can have in this is that maybe he finally has some closure and can move forward.

As for the Miles story, there was certainly tragedy that struck here as just when there was a bombshell dropped about a secret child, she was shot dead and left to bleed on the ground. There were times here when this felt a little heavy-handed, but what we really should take from this was that Monroe has yet another reason to fight.
