‘Glee’ season 4 song spoilers: Hear Lea Michele, Cory Monteith’s reprise
For anyone who is a longtime fan of “Glee,” “Don’t Stop Believin'” has to be one of the most significant numbers in the history of the show. After all, this is the first song that New Directions really performed together as a group in the pilot, and it remains one of the most-popular in terms of total downloads on iTunes.
We have seen some reminders of the show’s first episode in the past, but on Thursday night’s new episode “Sweet Dreams,” we are going to have our first full-on reprisal of the song as Rachel uses it for her “Funny Girl” audition. From the perspective on the show producers, the character is singing it alone, and that is the reason why she tackles all of the parts in this version, compared to the more collaborative original cover.
However, the song does contain the chorus including Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, and the others, as they take on some of the backing vocals as Rachel imagines them all being there in her mind. This performance may not overall have the same sort of magic that the first one had (mostly because that’s impossible at this point), but it does serve as a pretty fantastic reminder of just how far this group has come compared to where they were a few years ago.
It’s unlikely that we will find out whether or not Rachel receives the “Funny Girl” part in this episode, and we’re anticipating a situation similar to the NYADA results last season, where she learned just around the time of graduation.
What do you think about this new version of the song? Be sure to share what you think below! Also, be sure to head on over to the link here if you want to read some more news about Michele wrapping up filming with Kate Hudson.

Can’t wait for this episode!!!!… I love that they used this song as Rachel’s audition number! Really brings it back to the roots of the show and why we all fell in love with these characters, these actors, and Glee… and hopefully brings Rachel back to HER roots and whats really important.
I really can’t wait to see Shelby back. I love to hear Idina and Lea sing together, they bring out the best in each other!!
I did like last weeks episode (Shooting Star), I thought it was well done, but between the 3 weeks off and a totally McKinley based episode, I really need some NYC and Rachel Berry right now!!!!

Every time I hear this song without the voice of Cory Monteith it reminds me of the vicious way Ryan Murphy stabbed this actor in the back. He douche bagged the character of Finn to appease the gay and lesiban community and the broadway snobs who thought this show was about them when in fact the magic of this show was always found in this actor and how he portrayed the realistic journey of a guy’s guy learning to love the joy of performing the best actor on glee relegated to D plotlines and holding a clipboard. Cory always maintained the fact that he was just an actor and that he did not write the show and if the showrunner had a vision that made his character a joke and a freaking teacher which in the glee world means giving up on your dreams so be it. The problem was that the loyalty and hardwork that Cory did for this show was rewarded by the guy that runs glee by dissing the actor personally in a hollywood reporter article when he clearly disparaged his role on this show with the comment Monteith knew he was a sophomore and then describing him as the Finn thing in a subsequent article about the show. This was a heartbreaking moment for Cory knowing that the showrunner did not even have the his character in the future plans of the show when he admitted to talking with two actors and not Cory. I think there was a large following for Cory within the general audience and since most of those fans are not online zealots they simply stated why they will not watch glee anymore and they simply stopped watching glee. Good Luck Cory in your future endevours and I hope that other producers looking for a quality actor keep you in mind one thing they will get is a loyal employee only interested in doing a good job.
