‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6: Peter Weller returns to direct
While there is going to be a contingent of people who forever remembers Peter Weller on “RoboCop” (or TV fans who like to think of him more recently as the disgruntled Stan Liddy on “Dexter”), the actor has transformed himself into one of the finest TV directors around as of late. He’s very good with shows that are gritty, dark, or involve some sort of action sequences, which helps to explain why his resume is spearheaded by such things as “Hawaii Five-0,” “Longmire,” “House,” and of course “Sons of Anarchy.”
The latter series has been his home as a director more so than any other, as he has stepped into the chair for five episodes already during the FX show’s run (including the notable season 5 episode “Darthy”). Now, executive producer Kurt Sutter has decided to bring him on for more.
In the latest “WTFSutter” video on his YouTube channel, Sutter says that Weller, along with another director he works with regular in Paris Barclay (who Sutter claims probably knows the show better than he does), will each direct three episodes of the upcoming sixth season. When you consider the amount of pre and post-production that goes into an episode, this is really the maximum that either director is able to work on while still being able to handle all of their responsibilities.
Sutter also explains in the video what he looks for in a director, which includes trying to deliver it “as close to [his] vision” as he possibly can. He also says that he likes to give new people opportunities from time to time, while also keeping around people who are consistently great time and time again.
Are you happy for more of Weller, and is there any other “Sons of Anarchy” director that you are extremely fond of? If you want to read about Drea de Matteo’s return to the show, be sure to visit the story over here.
