‘The Simpsons’ spoof ‘Breaking Bad’ season 5 montage, and brilliantly (video)
Say what you will about “The Simpsons” no longer having the edge that it once did; whenever they parody another property in their opening theme song, it makes you want to give them a standing ovation.
Case in point? The video below, which is going to air during Sunday night’s new episode. Not only is this a near-perfect rendition of the “Crystal Blue Persuasion” montage from the season 5 midseason finale of “Breaking Bad,” but it even does a good job at casting people in unexpected roles. Who would have thought that it would be Marge to cook up the “blue,” and Homer being the one watching her? It’s a nice little shift, and just seeing the video brings laughs along with some great memories of one of the strongest montages in television history.
The best part about this is that it feels almost like Fox giving a round of applause to Bryan Cranston, who was at one point a part of the network’s Sunday-night lineup airing after “The Simpsons” in “Malcolm in the Middle.” We’re sure that he probably still has plenty of friends within the Fox family, and this spoof comes a year after the actor guest-starred on an episode of “The Simpsons” as a super spy.
There is still no firm premiere date yet for the final eight episodes of “Breaking Bad,” but we anticipate it airing at some point in July. The earliest it could possibly air seemingly is June 30, which should be after when “Mad Men” season 5 ends unless there is another double-episode thrown in there at some point. Meanwhile, we’re sure that AMC will want to also give enough space between Cranston’s series and “The Walking Dead” in order to put on the next season of “Hell on Wheels.”
