‘Buckwild’: MTV, producers to wait following Shain Gandee death to make decision on future

In case you are wondering whether or not “Buckwild” will officially be canceled in the wake of cast member Shain Gandee’s tragic death earlier this week, the jury is still out, and MTV is not necessarily in a hurry to make up its mind.

According to the Associated Press, a camera crew was with Shain in the week leading up to the accident that ended up taking the life of both him, his uncle, and another passenger, but production was not present when his suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, and nor was this trip related to the show in any shape or form.

The spokesman for the network Jake Urbanski claims that it will be a few weeks until a decision is made on whether or not season 2 of the reality show will resume production, but it will be up to the producers and the cast members as to whether or not they want to move forward. For the time being, attention is being focused primarily on Gandee’s family and friends during this difficult time. A public memorial for the 21-year old is being held this weekend, and many faces related to the show are expected to be in attendance.

You could ultimately see the future of “Buckwild” in two different ways. From one perspective, there may be a valid argument out there that the series go off the air, largely due to the simple fact that keeping it on could be in questionable taste. At the same time, the cast may feel like this is a better way to memorialize Shain rather than just ceasing production and trying to move forward with their lives privately.

In case you have not heard already, the production company behind the series has already agreed to pay for Gandee’s funeral.
