‘Glee’ season 4, episode 16 review: Rachel, Brody, and Santana have it out
“Glee” promised a lot of drama in Thursday night’s new episode “Feud,” and in the end they certainly delivered. There was plenty of awkward comedy in here, Sue Sylvester dressed as Nicki Minaj, and Santana Lopez inexplicably managing to convince a group of NYADA students to actually want to perform Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted” just by reminding them that they all knew the dance moves.
We may as well start with the Santana story, since this is something that everyone is curious about right now. Did she call Brody out on her secret? Without a doubt, even if she didn’t fully know that he was an escort of all things. Unfortunately for her, Rachel and Kurt weren’t really so keen to listen to her, and instead tried to get her shipped out of their apartment. When this worked, Santana decided to take matters into her own hands, recruit Finn, and let the sparks (and the fists) fly. Well, at least Finn finally has a win this season!
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we feel for Dean Geyer right now. He seems like a perfectly nice guy, but playing these sort of characters are not easy since you have to deal with so many young fans. Just as Grant Gustin.
As for some of the other feuds, they involved the following characters:
Finn and Will – We knew that Mr. Schue was not going to be altogether willing to forgive his one-time Best Man over kissing Emma, so what was perhaps more important here was the realization that Finn could do something else with his life … including being a teacher.
Ryder and Unique – For much of the season, it felt as though the dude was getting Catfished a la Manti Te’o by someone. Was it Unique? All we do know at the moment was that Ryder had a hard time accepting Unique for who he was, and it took the two singing together to work it out. As for the online girlfriend, we’re glad that this story is continuing for a while, since this really does happen to people and it’s pretty obvious that this isn’t a real romance.
Sue and Blaine – Easily, this was the most hilarious one of the group, as Sue decided to randomly blackmail Blaine into being a member of the Cheerios. The Nicki Minaj get-up was probably the most ridiculous thing we’ve ever seen, but the end result of it was also entertaining: Blaine opting to try and take down Sue from the inside.
While there are still some story elements that we are not too enthused with (namely Marley and Jake), this was one of the stronger episodes of “Glee” this year. There were some interesting performances, so actual shockers, and the stage is set for some interesting stuff. The only complaint? That Rachel’s possible pregnancy is being thrown completely by the wayside.
