ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: The next challenge for Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic
Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic have done a stellar job over the years on “Castle” of developing chemistry, and it shows through the development of Castle and Beckett. The two are a pair that you genuinely want to see together, but just like it has not been an easy road to get the pair to where they are now, you still know that it is not going to be an easy journey for them moving forward, either. While they are closer to their happy ending than they were at the start of the season, there are still some thing that need to be worked on … including a certain warning that Castle’s ex-wife Meredith gave Beckett earlier this year about his inability to ever let anyone completely into this world.
While this has not been addressed fully on the show just yet, executive producer Andrew W. Marlow confirmed in a new interview with TVLine that it will be very soon; not only that, but Castle and Beckett are really going to struggle with trying to break down the barriers that Fillion’s character has tried to keep for himself all of these years:
“The issue [ex-wife Meredith raised] is going to cause some trouble … We spent four years exposing who Kate is. She’s a very private person, and she’s kind of opened [up] to Castle. But now the question is, where’s Castle’s depth? He tends to live on the surface, but we know there’s more to him than that. So part of what we’re going to do is dig a little deeper.”
Marlow did not promise a resolution by the end of the season, but he did suggest that there is much more of a backstory to be told for Rick, and we would be finding out more of it soon.
Do you think that we are going to ultimately see the walls for both Castle and Beckett broken down completely by the end of the season, or do you imagine this will be much more of a work in progress? If you want to see some new coverage of the new episode airing a week from Monday, you can do so here.

Really like the characters and the comedy-drama plots… is there a possibility of Kate and Richard becoming a married couple and continuing to solve crimes and writing books? Maybe a homicide where daughter goes to school, their new place in NY, the Hamptons, Mom’s school of acting study, etc.
Thought for sure there was a movie in the works around your story with perhaps a happy ending. We could use more adult comedy-drama movies without the foul language and 3rd grade toilet humor.

I must admit that Castle is the only show that I watch. I have always enjoyed the back and forth between the characters (all of them) and I like the show because of the character development more than the crimes themselves. I view the crimes as the backdrop to let us understand who the main characters really are. The crime can add humor or seriousness but it is rarely the main focus for me. Having said that, season 5 started off great with Castle and Beckett together. I really liked ‘Murder He Wrote’ (silly tongue in cheek crime) because it presented both a serious (tour of the house) and humorous (“You forgot your suit.” and Ryan on the phone) view of Castle and Beckett together. But ‘Probable Cause’ was a big disappointment, mainly because of the crime. Why in the world would the team think Castle committed the crime based in part on finding a bag of crime tools in his loft? And the build up from Ryan’s very funny scene with Lerner the week before was completely thrown away in a comment from Beckett about her phone number being in Castle’s phone records. Overall, season 5 has not been my favorite. I completely support Castle and Beckett being together and they need to remain together. I enjoy the character building for Ryan and Esposito; the two of them are every bit as enjoyable as Castle and Beckett. I would like to see a bit more of Alexis and Martha in some manner that involves Beckett (story idea – the three girls go out together to do a little shopping and get a makeover, secret from Castle. Show quick scenes of them picking out clothes and in the beauty parlor getting their mani/pedi and looking at haircut pictures. Cut to scene of Castle returning to his loft, opening the door and finding the three of them standing there with new clothes and look). Gates is lost and they need to figure out how to get her engaged or out of the picture. Come on: ignite the spark of two smart, confident people who are in love. I don’t think they have completed each other’s sentence all season. By now they should be completing sentences with all kinds of funny double entendre.

o.k….I’m saying it again….where is the romance…we can have both romance and mystery crime solving….they do it in books all the time….mystery romance….this little stuff is just not cutting it….their a new couple still…they should still be in the giggly stages…enjoying their new relationship….your making them look boring…boring…as a couple…real couples have fun together!

Yeah…but when the affair was mentioned, she did not deny it. You can’t really expect that she would admit it to Kate. The ex was also running around half-clothed…who does that when they are no longer a couple? Even Alexis, her own daughter, wanted her to leave, but she did not mind Kate being there. It also seems that Castle has always had physical custody. Alexis seems think of Kate as more of a mother and that is a BIG PLUS for Caskett fans. I truly hope that Kate and Castle stay together and eventually get married and have a baby. It would be nice to have Caskett be parents.

I hope Season 5 ends on a happy note. Seasons 2 and 3 ended sadly with Castle going away for the summer with his ex(2) and Beckett getting shot(3). Season 4 ended on a happy note and I thing season 5 should also end on happy note. Some examples: Castle asks Beckett to marry him and she says yes, don’t keep us waiting all summer for her answer. Maybe Beckett could be pregnant. Beckett could say I love you to each other…Castle has not even said it since they started dating, even though we know does, since he said it in S3 and S4 finales. I am sure she loves him since she kept him waiting and she made the first move and told him she just wants him, but it is nice to hear it once in a while. Another possible finale is that they live together….just make it a happy finale.

Let’s hope that the powers that be are smart enough to let Castle and Beckett act like the smart adults that they are. Castle has written a whole “fantasy” life for Beckett through Nikki Heat. Surely he is smart enough to understand that she needs to know him as well as he (thinks he) knows her. But, do not end the season with them breaking up. They can be hurt, fight and get mad over something big or small but let them kiss and make up (ILU?) by the end.

Agree! It seems like things are just not connected yet. Stringing us along for their journey is fine, but can’t there be a little more romance on the way? It’s always just a little hint that there is even a relationship going on! I see so many opportunities for Small gestures of affection, yet AWM passesmthemover time and time again. I would like to see the dance multi-facet itself as well!

Please, AWM, as an ardent CASKETT supporter, how can you string out a gal’s telling her guy that she loves him, after she knew it since the end of season 2. I know, Castle strung his out for several years, and it is important to ‘peel the Castle onion, but us little people out here really need this step. Your twists n relationships are legendary, and appreciated, but ‘the dance’ needs to progress to a point that the audience can at least see that multiple songs are played at this dance. Keep up the great work.
