NBC’s ‘The Office’ season 9: Rainn Wilson courted heavily for NBC pilots
NBC is doing their best at this very moment to make one thing very clear to Rainn Wilson: under no circumstance at all do they want him leaving the network, even though they abandoned his spin-off to “The Office” entitled “The Farm” after the backdoor pilot was not received well enough to continue moving forward.
As a matter of fact, Deadline is reporting that Willson is one of the most in-demand actors at the moment from within the world of the network, as they are even given him a pilot and a six-episode guarantee for a series currently entitled “Donor Party.” The script is being specifically rewritten with Wilson in mind, and it is coming at a time when there are at least three other networks (two broadcast and one cable) who are displaying a great deal of interest in him.
Considering the fact that “The Office” was around for nine seasons, it’s hardly a surprise to see Wilson being someone who a number of networks are looking at. After all, Mindy Kaling already has “The Mindy Project,” and B.J. Novak is also a part of that as an executive producer. Meanwhile, Craig Robinson, Brian Baumgartner, Ellie Kemper, and Angela Kinsey have all been involved with pilot season in some shape or form already, while Jenna Fischer is still extremely in-demand with many networks and studios.
In other pilot news, one of the other actors who is currently receiving a number of offers is John Stamos, whose career has been resurrected in many ways over the past several years courtesy of some big-time guest-starring roles. While he is being offered both one-hour and half-hour pilots, there is no word yet on where he is leaning.
