‘The Celebrity Apprentice’: Donald Trump, Bill Maher, and a strange lawsuit
We have seen Donald Trump do a number of unusual things over the years, but who would have imagined that somewhere on that list would be watching the self-made billionaire go after Bill Maher over him not paying up some money to charity on a ridiculous bet.
Here’s a little bit more of the full story: during the massive controversy over whether or not President Barack Obama was actually born in the United States, the “Real Time” host challenged the “Celebrity Apprentice” host on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to show his birth certificate, just to prove that he was not the decedent or orangutan. If he did, he “claimed” that he, like Trump said he would do if Obama showed off his birth certificate, would donate $5 million to some of Donald’s favorite charities.
Well, Trump took the message seriously and unveiled his birth certificate online … and now, he’s suing Maher for not paying up to charities he believes deserves the cash.
So is there any chance that Trump actually has of winning the money? It’s pretty unlikely, mostly because Maher, as a comedian, will likely just say that he was making his comments satirically, and that no one could seriously expect him to give this kind of money over a claim so silly. As for whether or not you think this is a fair, since a non-comedian could be held to a different standard when making the same comment, that is an entirely different story.
What do you think about this lawsuit, and do you think that Trump’s chances of winning are about equal to Gary Busey winning “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice”? We want to hear your thoughts below, and you can check out the first trailer of the show this season over at the link here.
