‘The Following’ episode 2 preview: First look at the chapters ahead
While some out there may bemoan the fact that “The Following” is only going to have a 15-episode season, there are a number of things that we are particularly excited about when it comes to the lengthy of the show’s first season: not only does this allow for a story that is a little bit more compact, but it is still long enough to last through the rest of the primary TV season.
Kevin Bacon and company are going to continue airing new episodes every Monday consecutively until the show ends for the year, and there are going to be a number of revelations that are made along the way. For one, this new cult-of-sorts organized by Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) is far more complicated than anyone originally thought, and the three known accomplices of his actions may just be the tip of the iceberg. Not only that, but there will be some other complications that Bacon’s Ryan Hardy runs into just when it comes to his investigation, and he has to yet again struggle with the concept of being forced to play by the rules of someone else.
Are there some flaws in this show thus far? Possibly, at least depending on how you choose to look at it. “The Following” is probably never going to be a realistic depiction of how a powerful serial killer and his newly-created army are destroyed, but part of the issue with that is merely that there is hardly much in the way of real-life evidence to go on. Plus, television is meant to force you to suspend belief at times, as grisly as the premiere was, we also found it to be a captivating hour of television.
