‘Glee’ season 4 spoilers: Heather Morris, Darren Criss star in ‘This Is the New Year’

Remember when very few people had ever heard of fun. before “We Are Young” came on “Glee”? The show was one of the reasons why the song ended up becoming a global smash hit, and now they may be giving a similar opportunity on Thursday night’s episode “Naked” to an incredible new song.

The song that we are talking about here is A Great Big World’s “This Is the New Year,” which, based on the new video shared by executive producer Ryan Murphy, is going to be one of the standout moments during Thursday night’s new episode “Naked.” This song is perfect for “Glee” in just about every way imaginable: it’s emotional, inspiration, and it has a pretty amazing hook to go along with it. We don’t usually include the original performance along with the cover, but given that this is a song that so many are still unfamiliar with, it only seemed appropriate to give new potential fans an opportunity to see what we are raving about here.

The “Glee” cover really gives every member of New Directions some time in the spotlight, though we would wager that Brittany (Heather Morris), Blaine (Darren Criss), Marley (Melissa Benoist), and Jake (Jacob Artist) are the ones that deliver most of the big moments. The first half of their video feels very much like the original, but then it diverges near the end to give it that familiar “big ‘Glee’ number” feeling that we traditionally see at the conclusion of so many of their numbers.
