‘Homeland’ season 3 debate: Where will the story go without [spoiler]?
If you remember back to last week, you may still be reeling from the news that Diego Klattenhoff has seen his status on “Homeland” change for season 3. No longer is he a series regular; and instead, he is currently listed as recurring.
So what does this really mean for the future of some other characters? That is what we are trying to investigate now. For one, we personally are assuming that Kattenhoff will still appear at some point in the season, mostly because it is hard to really imagine a future for Jess and her children without him around. After all, just look at everything this group has been through together! Mike has been the rock during some incredibly tough times, and there are more tough times really mixed in here than we can count. Having him depart now that the family is under more scrutiny than ever does not make any sense.
So considering the theory that Mike ends up staying with the Brody family, what can we take from the Klattenhoff announcement? The most likely answer is that we will probably not see Merena Baccarin in every episode this year. After all, what more of a story is there for the Brody family now that Damian Lewis is out of the country? Showrunner Alex Gansa has certainly set it up so that the Brody story is far from over, but there is going to be more going on this coming season beyond that.
The other possible explanation here is that the writers could be plotting a way to send Mike overseas for a bit, which could create some more conflict with the Brody family if Jess is forced to watch over the kids alone. Since he is a soldier, there are always plenty of things that you can do with such a character.
The only thing that could really hamper Klattenhoff’s future availability on the show is if the event comes up where he gets cast on another show, which is possible considering his release just in time for pilot season. This was clearly a gamble that Showtime was willing to take, so they obviously had some sort of a plan.
What do you think “Homeland” should do with Mike? If you want to read some more scoop about when production for the new season will start, you can do so here.
