‘Supernatural’ season 8, episode 11 review: Felicia Day and the gift of fun
If you look back at Wednesday night’s “Supernatural” season 8 episode “LARP and the Real Girl” many months from now, it’s pretty unlikely that it is going to have much of a role at all in the overall mythology of the series. There was not really any one even that transpires that we can see being important in future weeks, and this episodes instead served almost as an oasis for the Winchesters after what they have been through. Sam needed a break following what transpired with Amelia, and Dean also needed to ease his mind after cutting off Benny. What better way to do that than engaging in some live action role playing?
Unfortunately, at one point in the episode we’re pretty sure that Sam and Dean weren’t playing a role at all, as they were forced to take on some real threats while in the created world of Moondoor, a game in which Felicia Day’s Charlie just so happened to be a queen. If you love Day, you probably loved this episode even more. It paid tribute very much to some of her strong attributes as an actress, and it allowed her to celebrate that geek within that we first came to know on “The Guild.”
Yes, at one point Charlie did kiss a female fairy and there were some fans who probably are still picking up parts of their face from the floor; but even if you don’t include that moment, there was still so many reasons to be happy with how this story played out. Dean and Charlie’s interactions were great, and seeing how much Jensen Ackles embraced this whole world was unexpected. Plus, we even felt inspired after his epic speech at the end!
“LARP and the Real Girl” was just a fun hour of television at the end of the day; it can’t be taken to seriously, and it showed that “Supernatural” was still capable of delivering some great one-off episodes after some from earlier this season fell rather flat (especially that hour of found footage we would prefer to never speak of again).
Overall, what did you think about this episode? If you want to know more about what is coming up on “Supernatural” season 8, you can do so over at the link here.

I really liked this episode, it was fun! In the past, these type of episodes revealed something that was relevant to the current story line but I am ok with this one-off. What I loved:
How Dean and Charlie played off each other
How the boys finally got called out on the fake badges
That Dean showed his inner-geek and wanted to get into costume and participate in the LARPing! (like when he got into the cowboy gear in Season 6)
That Charlie asked if Dean broke up with someone too (yes he broke up with Benny!)
That the blond chick in the tech tent was flirting with Sam but he blew her off (he only like brunettes honey)
That the boys got into Larping at the end, they deserved to have a little fun!
