NBC’s ‘The Office’ season 9: Network boss still doubtful on Steve Carell return
While some may see the following comments as NBC programming head Robert Greenblatt trying to throw Steve Carell under the bus when it comes to whether or not he will return to “The Office” before the show comes to an end, we just see him as being honest. If Carell is not interested in coming back as Michael Scott, then why pretend as though there is much of a chance of it happening?
Specifically, here is what Greenblatt told reporters while at the Television Critics Association on Sunday, where his network had their semi-annual presentation touting their highs and lows:
“I’m hopeful, but I don’t think [he] will be back. He left in the way that he wanted that character to leave.
“There’s maybe a little hail mary pass on a cameo, but I think the decision is that he [doesn’t want to ruin his original exit].”
While a part of us thinks that it would be nice to see whether or not Michael and Holly are married in Colorado, there is a part of us that also agrees with him. Remember when J.D. left “Scrubs” so many times that it became a joke? We don’t want that, since it takes away the wonderful feeling that existed in the past. Then again, you could also argue that some series-finale cameos are appreciated, such as when Topher Grace returned to “That 70’s Show” in order to give Eric and Donna the happy ending that most fans felt like they needed.
Regardless of whether or not Carell will return, the show’s series finale is slated to be an hour long, and should feature some sort of conclusion to the stories of Jim, Pam, and many of the other beloved characters. In addition to that, we’ll also find out some more information on the documentary crew who has been watching them all along.
What do you think: should Michael Scott turn up one last time? If you want to read when Ed Helms is going to be back as Andy, all you have to do is click here.
