Ratings: ‘Gossip Girl’ series finale up; ‘1600 Penn’ starts so-so after ‘The Voice’
For those of you wondering whether or not viewers would actually come back to “Gossip Girl” for what actually was a pretty good series finale, the answer here is yes. However, it’s still hard to tell how many people actually watched the final episode due to averages.
Including the one-hour retrospective beforehand, the final posted a 0.7 rating and 1.4 million viewers, both big increases from the season average. However, we’re assuming that the finale rating was actually higher than this, given that many fans likely opted to watch something else the first hour over a special reminding them of everything they already knew about the show. (Update: some new figures indicate that the finale itself posted a 0.8, which is the best total The CW has had for a Monday show all season.)
Elsewhere on TV, NBC can be happy about “The Voice” posting a 4.1 rating on the night, which easily put it in first place. However, they may be a little less excited about the fact that “1600 Penn” lost much of the lead-in and drew just a 2.3, which is probably going to be adjusted down in the final numbers given that the singing show ran until 9:31. This does not bode well considering that “1600 Penn” will be on a new night next year, and its next episode is almost a month away.
The only other thing really worth noting at the moment is that “How I Met Your Mother” is still going strong with a 3.4 rating, which to us suggests that the show is going to get the season 9 renewal that it is so hoping for; after all, what better way to usher in some new shows given the likely end of “Two and a Half Men”?
