‘The Walking Dead’ season 3, episode 6 review: Worlds collide
It’s about time. After six episodes and plenty of deaths, “The Walking Dead” is finally at a point now where the worlds of Woodbury and the prison are starting to fuse together. It’s a shame that the lead-up to this moment happened during the worst episode of the season, since much of the hype this week was build around two moments that seemed a little strange from a storytelling perspective.
First, we have the issue of Merle going after Michonne in the woods following her decision to leave The Governor’s town. Why did he care so much about her getting away? Did they want to keep their place a secret? This really the only explanation we can think of for why so much energy would be used on this plot was just so that there was a reason for Merle, Michonne, Glenn, and Maggie to all be in one place. Now that Merle knows his brother is alive, this meeting should set up opportunities for him to tell Rick eventually about the “Utopia” that is out there … which we are hoping will lead to the showdown of the ages.
Speaking of Rick, he was front and center during the other questionable plot this week revolved largely around Rick’s mystery phone call really just being in his head. Did he need to come to terms with what happened with Lori? It’s hard to object this, but we hoped that it would have happened in a way that was grounded in this show’s own gritty version of reality … especially since the show ha sbeen so willing to change other elements of the Robert Kirkman graphic novels.
