‘Elementary’ adds two episodes, ‘Guys with Kids’ four; ‘Vegas’ loses one
If you are loving “Elementary” as much as we are, then this headline probably gives you even further reason to smile. After several weeks of solid ratings at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Jonny Lee Miller series is now set to extend its overall order by two episodes to an impressive 24. Is it possible that this order was in part done thanks to the recent announcement that the show will be coming on after the Super Bowl later this year? We’re actually betting that this is probable; after all, CBS is showing a great deal of confidence in this show’s ability to become a hit down the road.
As for a series that the network is showing far less confidence in, it’s some bad news coming in now for “Vegas.” After posting some disappointing ratings in the 18-49 demographic the past few weeks, the network has shortened the full-season order by an episode, and it will now only air 21 versus 22. Really, this is going to be an interesting show to watch over the coming weeks, since it does manage to bring in over ten million viewers. Could a network like TNT pick this up if it doesn’t make the cut on CBS? We would not be surprised at all if we are looking at this sort of situation come June.
On a more promising note, let’s turn now to NBC, which has opted to give “Guys with Kids” another four episodes, which will extend this Jimmy Fallon-produced show to 17 episodes. Sadly for them, we still don’t see these sort of numbers being worthy of a second season; however, given the destitute nature of all NBC comedies not named “Go On,” “The New Normal,” or (to a lesser extent) “Parks and Recreation,” anything is possible.
