‘Dancing with the Stars’: Co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet reveals cancer diagnosis
There is some sad news breaking from the world of “Dancing with the Stars”: in a new video posted on YouTube, the show’s co-host (and former champion) Brooke Burke-Charvet has announced that doctors have found a cancerous nodule located on her thyroid, and she is going to undergo surgery at some point in the near future to correct it. The good news? Even though all forms of cancer are dangerous, this one is one of the easier to treat, and due in part to catching it early, she should be able to make a full recovery.
Here is some more of what the Tom Bergeron’s partner-in-crime had to say about what is currently happening in her life:
“I need to have thyroid surgery and a thyroidectomy, which means I’m going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck … I never ever, ever thought I was going to get that phone call with bad news … I feel really good and actually I’ve never felt better.”
The most incredible thing about Brooke’s announcement here is not just that she is brave enough to talk about it online in such a public forum, but that she is also so willing to share some optimism even in the midst of what has to be one of the darker periods in her life:
“I’m going to be fine. And I feel really really strong. Doctors say this is a good kind of cancer to have … Good cancer! That sounds so crazy. But my doctor did tell me this is a happily-ever-after ending kind of thing. I’m going to fight through this.”
Burke-Charvet has not given any indication that she will miss any of “Dancing with the Stars” this season, and with that in mind you have to assume instead that she will have the surgery conducted during the offseason either late this year or at the start of 2013.
