‘Parks and Recreation’ season 5 spoilers: Vice-President Joe Biden a go
“Parks and Recreation” season 5 is quickly turning out to be a star-studded affair. Only a few weeks after we saw appearances from the likes of Barbara Boxer and John McCain as themselves on the NBC political comedy, we now know that the show somehow managed to secure the second-most-important man in American for a guest-starring gig: Vice-President Joe Biden.
As the video below (via Entertainment Weekly) clearly shows, the man working directly alongside the Commander-in-Chief is going to be stopping by for an appearance airing during the upcoming episode on November 15. As for how he will cross paths with Leslie Knope, who has long idolized the man on a very creepy sort of level, the answer there is simple: Ben called in a few favors while the two were spending some time together in Washington, and thus was able to arrange a friendly meeting between the two parties. The video does not really show us the meeting so much as the buildup to it, but you can see from the look on Leslie’s face just how she feels about it. (Here’s a clue: she’s over the moon.)
The timing for this announcement really is perfect given that Biden was just re-elected thanks to President Obama winning over Mitt Romney, and this would have had a rather different tone to it had that not been the case. In talking about the booking to the magazine, here is what executive producer Mike Schur had to say:
“[It was] so much less difficult than we ever possibly imagined … His staff really loves the show, and he apparently had watched the show with his family and his family liked it… The hardest part was keeping it secret for so long because there’s all these FEC rules and equal-time rules. We couldn’t air it before the election because it was the equivalent of a campaign contribution to advertise for one candidate.”
How great of a get do you think that this is for NBC?
