Call the Midwife 2019 Christmas Special spoilers: New details emerge!

Call the Midwife

Is everyone out there in the holiday spirit already? Here in the United States we’re gearing up for Thanksgiving, which is a perfect launching-pad for all things Christmas.

The culmination of Christmas in terms of British TV comes in the form of Call the Midwifewhich manages to capture the spirit more than anyone. Think in terms of the spirit of giving, but also some of the darker emotions that can come with a holiday. Not everyone can have a Merry Christmas; some people are alone, whereas others are suffering. The best thing that the nurses and nuns of Nonnatus can do is try to share the spirit of giving. Sometimes, they do that locally around Poplar — at other times, they embody the Christmas spirit by traveling, even on specials not set on the day.

Moving into the 2019 Christmas Special, we know that the series won’t just be set at Nonnatus. Instead, we’re going to see many characters on the move to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. This is a chance for them to help out a place where people don’t have access to the same luxuries that are present a little bit south. This is a special about making the area better — but along the way, we’re sure that some of the characters will learn a few different things, as well.

Below, you can check out the official synopsis from this upcoming special:

As Christmas approaches, a bout of influenza sweeps through Nonnatus House. When Mother Mildred (Miriam Margolyes) declares that God is calling her to set up a branch house in the Outer Hebrides, it seems an ideal opportunity for some of the team to convalesce in the fresh Scottish air. As they recover, they will be able to help the island where there is a nursing and doctor shortage.

Much to Violet’s (Annabelle Apsion) frustration, Fred (Cliff Parisi) is enlisted to drive them all. Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) associates the Outer Hebrides with St Eustace’s White Stag, a symbol of Christ, and is thrilled at the idea. However, she soon discovers to her annoyance that she is being left behind.

They quickly set off on their journey where they are to stay in a freezing cold, converted church. As the team set about establishing an antenatal clinic and treating the local population, they must battle not only the weather and bleak terrain, but the suspicions of some of the islanders.

Meanwhile, in Poplar, Reggie (Daniel Laurie) has come home for Christmas and finds a hidden present: The Guinness Book of World Records. Inspired by the triumphs of others, Reggie decides that he too will try to break a world record.

The Call the Midwife 2019 Christmas Special is going to be airing Christmas Day over on BBC One, but viewers in America, know that the special will also be coming to PBS. You have a lot of different stuff to look forward to!
