Arrow season 8: Emily Bett Rickards returning for series finale
In a new post on Twitter, it was star Stephen Amell himself who broke the good news, noting that there would likely be many announcements coming, and he wanted to help be a part of celebrating some of the familiar faces returning to the show. Emily departed the series as a regular cast member back at the end of season 7, and while she’d said previously that she thought that her character had an fitting end to her story, we’d always hoped that there would be a chance in order to see her again. It just made sense to have her back so that we could get one last Olicity reunion, and for the journey of Oliver Queen as the Green Arrow to come full-circle.
One of the things that we do wonder is this — would Amell have announced the news at all in the event that there wasn’t so much scouting that went on around the Arrow set in Vancouver? We wonder this because it’s really hard to keep secrets in Vancouver when a lot of paparazzi know some of the standard filming locations. Stephen and the producers of Arrow probably wanted to ensure that the secret didn’t get out through some means that they cannot control and with that, announcing it this way became the best-case scenario.
What we know about Felicity’s status is that at the end of season 7, Felicity departed to go to (presumably) wherever Oliver was in the future. Does that mean that he survives the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths? It feels that way, though he may no longer be a part of the world that we once knew … if that timeline sticks. That’s always been the difficult, challenging part of the Arrowverse and their stories — presumably, everything that we’ve seen to date can be malleable in some shape or form. That includes a lot of flash-forwards, and characters who we have become rather invested in over the years.
