Arrow season 8 episode 3 spoilers: Take a ‘Leap of Faith’
So what sort of role is Thea going to have over this episode? The Arrow season 8 episode 3 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below gives you a slight sense of it:
WILLA HOLLAND GUEST STARS – Reunited with his sister, Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (guest star Willa Holland) find themselves searching through a familiar maze of catacombs. Meanwhile, John (David Ramsey) and Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Anderson) partner on a special ops mission. Katie Cassidy directed the episode written by Emilio Ortega Aldrich & Elizabeth Kim (#803). Original airdate 10/29/2019.
Sure, there is a literal, physical mission that Oliver will be working on with his sister at his side. Yet, we have a hard time imagining that the reasoning behind her return is strictly that. We imagine that it’s just as much about playing into nostalgia and Oliver recognizing how important these moments are to his future. She’s the last bit of family that he has who was there before he was the Hood. The original Laurel is gone. The same goes for Robert and Moira. Even Felicity, who he fell in love with during this journey, is now also missing in action. He needs her to be reminded of his humanity.
Meanwhile, Diggle and Lyla’s story is a recognition (or a Harbinger, to use a Lyla pun) to how important both could be nearing Crisis on Infinite Earths. ARGUS is one of the few through-lines that exists constantly throughout Arrow and The Flash — it feels like their resources and their knowledge would prove useful in dealing with a threat like the Anti-Monitor. It may be even above their own pay grade, but still, it’s pretty darn clear that they would do whatever they could in order to help.
Now, let’s conclude this with the oh-so-sad reminder that there are only eight more episodes until the series finale…
