World on Fire episode 2 preview: How will Sean Bean drama continue?

World on Fire season 1

Curious to know what’s coming in terms of World on Fire episode 2? Another new episode is coming onto BBC One in one week’s time, and if we had to guess, this is precisely what you would expect to see from a historical drama at the network. Think about it — we’ve got a World War II setting, sweeping visuals, and an exceptional cast fronted by Sean Bean. Everything within this show lines up perfectly with what you would expect; now, it has to deliver on the quality. Prepare for multiple countries, devastating relationships, prejudice, death, and a whole lot more.

To think — somehow, the folks behind the scenes are going to find a way to cram all of this into just the span of seven episodes.

Below, CarterMatt offers the official World on Fire episode 2 synopsis with more news as to some of what’s coming up next:

In devastated Warsaw, Kasia makes plans to flee with grief-stricken mother Maria but gets caught in a resistance cell’s attack on German soldiers.

Harry returns to Manchester. When he finally plucks up the courage to tell Lois the truth about Warsaw, she disarms him by declaring her love. Harry then travels to London where he’s dismissed from the diplomatic services because of his conduct in Warsaw.

Tom shocks Douglas by announcing he is now a conscientious objector, while in Berlin Nancy is frustrated by the growing power of the censor. In Paris, Webster and Albert are deeply in love, but their joy is overshadowed by the growing threat of prejudice they face.

What are the stories that will last throughout the series? We think of World on Fire more as the course of the war than on any particular character. You’ll see these relationships form and fold against the backdrop of the spread of various threats. What happened with Harry in Warsaw is going to leave a mark, but it doesn’t have to define him. What happens between him and Lois will matter, but then you also have so many more secrets and reveals beyond that.

Time will tell if World on Fire becomes the hit that the BBC wants for it to be, but it has a lot going for it in terms of timeslot — anything being pushed after Strictly Come Dancing has a good chance of being a hit.
