Saturday Night Live: Leslie Jones lines up early post-show gig
According to a new report coming in via Deadline, Jones is developing a revival of the classic game show Supermarket Sweep with Fremantle, with there already being interest from a number of different outlets. Leslie would serve as both a host and executive producer on the potential project. We would imagine that NBC could be one suitor given that it would make a whole lot of sense for them to want to keep her around for as long as possible.
What excites us first and foremost about the idea of Jones hosting a Supermarket Sweep is simply this — Leslie Jones has the energy to make anything fun. Also, she’s apparently a big fan of the game show and it was one of our personal favorites many years ago, as well. The entire idea of it was so bonkers, as you would watch people run through a “grocery store” picking up as much expensive food as possible before “checking out” at the end. Also, we love the bonus round where there was some mysterious wad of cash hidden somewhere within the store. All of this could work well on TV now.
Yet, we’re not willing to call NBC a sure thing for a new Supermarket Sweep, mostly because we can assume already that another possible suitor could be in the running here in ABC. Just think about it for a moment or two here — they’ve made a killing as of late putting a lot of classic game show revivals on the air, with many of them having big-name hosts. One of them in Match Game is even being hosted by someone in Alec Baldwin who has a history of hosting and appearing on SNL over the years.
We’ll see if anything comes about this — if nothing else, we know that Leslie is going to all sorts of stuff waiting for her following her time on the late-night show.
