Doctor Who season 12: Are the Cybermen returning?
We know that if we were to break down some of our favorite show adversaries ever, the Cybermen would be on it and for good reason — they’re formidable, they’ve been a part of the franchise forever, and Chris Chibnall could have a cool interpretation of them. With there being plans to feature more classic characters this season, it feels like they are the perfect group of adversaries to select.

Speaking via The Mirror, here is what one source had to say about the story that is coming, and how the Cybermen could factor into the larger thematic story that is coming up:
“This new run is much scarier than Jodie’s first year and will definitely put the frighteners on fans. Things are about to get darker for the Doctor.”
How dark are we talking about here? We’ve got a feeling that the upcoming story will at least expose some of the characters’ worst fears and cause The Doctor to think a little bit differently. As much criticism as Chibnall may have taken for not including classic characters in season 11, there is one advantage to him keeping characters at bay — it gives him more of a clear opportunity to make more of an event around these characters turning up now.
Unfortunately, you may be waiting a while for some story details or casting news. After all, Doctor Who season 12 is not going to premiere in proper until the new year, though there is a small opportunity we could see something in the way of a special beforehand. (If Chibnall is planning to bring back the Cybermen and the Judoon, who knows what else could be coming on some further installments of the show?)
