NCIS: New Orleans season 6 debate: Should there be new Big Bad?
Instead, we’re back today to ponder over a different subject: One tied very much to the notion of Big Bads. Even though this series is fundamentally a procedural, we have seen them do a good job here and there working to incorporate some rather sinister characters. Think along the lines of Mayor Hamilton or Walker from this past season. These two proved to be formidable adversaries in their own way, and while we obviously want to see Pride and some other characters succeed, we do think that it’s quite valuable to also see them tested. Big Bads sort of shake up shows from the occasional procedural tendency.
With this in mind, the obvious answer to the question in the title is that yes, there should be a new villain entering NCIS: New Orleans season 4. The biggest question is precisely what sort of character they should be.
Someone from within Lousiana – It doesn’t have to be exclusively New Orleans, but we think it would benefit the show to stay a little bit more local as opposed to transferring these characters elsewhere. The location is a big part of what makes this series stand out.
Someone who doesn’t know Pride as of yet – While we know that there are plenty of threats and enemies for Pride out there from his own personal history, it’s almost more effective to introduce him to the unknown. Think in terms of someone who he and the rest of the team can’t predict, and someone who challenges them physically and mentally.
Someone with an unknown motive – Maybe they are a serial killer, or maybe they’re just an upscale robber with a particular agenda. Either way, learning who they are is only a part of the struggle — it’s also why they are the way that they are.
Someone who can appear within more than just a couple of episodes – Obviously, NCIS: New Orleans isn’t going to become a super-serialized show. Yet, we do think that you can bring a Big Bad around for around four or five episodes while keeping your show’s DNA the same. Set this character up early on in the season, and then maybe bring them back for the winter finale, the start of the new year, and then a couple of times at the end.
Of course, we do hope that the Big Bad could be played by a known performer, someone who can get viewers excited from the jump. While we know that there are plenty of unknowns out there who would jump at the chance to play a notable character, CBS could easily promote Scott Bakula versus another actor with an established resume.
Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see just how the writers decide to continue the story — NCIS: New Orleans season 6 will start filming this summer, and hopefully, more updates will surface around then.
