The Durrells season 4 episode 3 preview: Louisa meets Spiros’ wife
For most of this series, that character has existed off-screen, mostly as a thorn in viewers’ side since we know that there are a lot of people out there rooting for Louisa and Spiros together. The biggest problem that we’ve had with the two of them from the start, though, is that Spiros is married. We don’t want Louisa involved in an affair, and we also don’t want Spiros to keep leading her on. She’s just emotionally screwed in the position that she’s in! She doesn’t get many opportunities to actually move on with her life because she’s hung up. It’s only now that she’s starting to realize that she may need some distance from Spiros in order to move forward.
Ironically, this is of course when she’ll end up seeing Spiros’ wife for the first time, and we’re going to have a legitimately good opportunity to see just what is happening when it comes to his relationship. We can get some real answers here, but beyond all of that, we can see if there’s some staying power for the two of them. For the sake of Louisa, we just hope that she has an opportunity to be happy. With this being the final season of the show, is that really too much to ask?
As for what we’re going to be seeing elsewhere within this episode, just think in these terms — we’re going to have an opportunity to see some of Margo’s travels as she continues to try and figure out the precise person she wants to be. We’ve already seen her embark on this quest for independence courtesy of her spending a little bit of time with Theo and trying to find her place as a hairdresser; next week, you can just amplify a whole lot of what we saw tonight.
What we’re getting thematically throughout the final season of The Durrells is really quite simple: An opportunity to see some of these characters actually plan for the future of their lives. The kids are growing up, and Louisa herself needs to figure out how she wants to spend what are hopefully going to be the next several decades of her life. You may smile, you may frown, and hopefully, you’ll be left cheering by the time you make it to the end of the series.
