TV Madness 2019: Chicago PD, Shadowhunters square off in round 2
Today, we’re closing out the first half of the top sixteen with two great shows who will be engaging in what is likely an intense, lively battle — Chicago PD and Shadowhunters. Believe it or not, they actually have some things in common! After all, the characters of both shows do what they can to protect their cities … and there’s some moral gray area mixed in there. They also eah have devoted audiences and a fairly vibrant ‘shipping community. So there you have it — we’ve connected the dots on these two shows SO much more than we ever thought we would.
If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.
How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Thursday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner of this battle will take on either Hawaii Five-0 or Blindspot, who are currently competing in what could prove to be a pretty intense showdown!
You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.
The competitors
Chicago PD (#3 seed) – The police drama faced some solid competition against The Orville but managed to come out on top. Out of all the One Chicago dramas, you can make the argument that this is the one with the most long-term stability. It managed to navigate the loss of arguably its biggest star in Sophia Bush, it has a sweet syndication deal, and it’s persevered despite airing at a tough timeslot and opposite at times Criminal Minds — a show that in theory, could have a similar audience.
As of right now, the struggle for most Chihards with this show is merely having to wait until March 27 to see it back. Luckily, all signs point towards some excellent drama in the next new episode … including a situation in which one Mayoral candidate’s life is on the line. This is a dose of napalm for what has been an explosive storyline for the better part of this season.
Shadowhunters (#2 seed) – Meanwhile, the good news with Shadowhunters is that we’re currently in a run of new episodes that are electric and awesome. We’re still facing the the very real possibility that season 3 is the end of the road, leaving us with the perspective of “enjoy every second.” It’s emotional losing a show, especially losing one that so many people are this invested in.
No matter what happens, Shadowhunters has already fared well within this tournament. We can also tell you that moving forward, you’re going to see oodles of the great stuff you love on this show — think action, romance, conflict, mythology, and moments that you’ll be able to turn into gifs. In the realm of social media, these will live forever.
