TV Madness 2019: Outlander, Wynonna Earp kick off round 2!

Outlander

TV Madness 2019 is officially upon us! March is one of our favorite times of the year for many reasons — spring is in the air, the days are getting longer, and the idea of a bracket is a part of our pop-culture lexicon. TV Madness is CarterMatt’s version of March Madness, where a number of fantastic shows from across the map face off against each other. There are seedings, head-to-head showdowns, and the performance of each show is based entirely on you, the reader.

Today, we’re kicking off round 2 of the tournament! Tens of thousands of votes have already been cast, and there are still plenty of round one showdowns still active. If you haven’t voted on some of those, you still can! Here, the focus is on two shows in Outlander and Wynonna Earp and what is almost sure to be one of the most epic battles this round! You’ve got a former champion looking to reclaim its throne up against a newcomer who (at present) is fighting for its future on the air. The stakes are high, but only one show shall make it to our version of the elite eight…

If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Wednesday,, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner of this battle will take on one of four different shows that are still in the running — NCIS, Designated Survivor, Law & Order: SVU, and Suits. That field will be narrowed down slightly come tomorrow afternoon.

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Outlander (#1 seed) – You can’t be shocked that the time-travel drama is here. Outlander won the TV Madness tournament in consecutive years only to lose out in 2018 versus The Brave. With the NBC drama no longer in commission, you have to consider Outlander a favorite all over again. It throttled Lethal Weapon in the first round of the tournament, winning by the largest total margin of votes we’ve seen so far. (Granted, many polls are still open, but we haven’t seen a margin anywhere close to this right now.)

The placement of Outlander in TV Madness this year effectively gives us all something new to buzz about, given that the series has yet to start production on season 5. Even when they do, it’s not going to be airing for a long time — heck, there’s a chance that TV Madness 2020 will be going on at the time in which season 5 is airing! Consider this a nice appetizer … one that you can get together and vote on with your friends.

Wynonna Earp (#5 seed) – This show is going to be a threat — not just to Outlander, but to any other round of the tournament if it advances. It was formidable due to its sizable Earper fandom long before the behind-the-scenes drama that threw the show’s future into question. Now that a season 4 is far from assured, that is empowering viewers in a spectacular, beautiful way. We’ve seen billboards around the country alongside various #FightForWynonna campaigns in several parts of the world.

While winning TV Madness by no means would save the show on its own, it does at least keep Wynonna Earp in the conversation and on people’s minds. The future aside, there’s also a reason to vote here if you just want to celebrate the show for what it is — an action-packed, funny, and at times romantic show about family, demons, and coming together during hard times.

Let the voting commence…

Be sure to share who you want to see advance in our TV Madness Tournament below!

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
