‘Shipper Showdown 2019 finale: Outlander, Lucifer, Supergirl, more ‘ships face off
Earlier on this month, I polled readers as to their favorite ‘ship from a number of different franchises, whether it be One Chicago, NCIS, the Arrowverse, and many more. The results were posted yesterday, and now marks the beginning of the final round. There are nine different ‘ships squaring off here for the title of champion, and over the course of the next week or so, the power is in your hands in order to determine the winner.
Take a look at all of the different ‘ships below; at the bottom of this article, there is a poll to vote for your favorite! Voting will be open for the final round until Thursday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. For more on voting rules, check out the bottom of this article.
Edward Nygma & Oswald Cobblepot, Gotham – The dynamic between these two has long been one of the show’s finest. There’s so much history there and so many feelings. While there have been plenty of conflicts, there are few things more electric on this show than scenes that feature the two of them together. It just adds another dimension to the show and to these two characters.
Harvey Specter & Donna Paulsen, Suits – When is Darvey going to become an item? This is probably one of the most frequently questions asked within the Suits fandom, and for good reason. The chemistry is high, the understanding of each other is front and center, and there’s already established history. Now is just the time to get all the cards on the table.
Jamie & Claire Fraser, Outlander – Their love story is the focal point for the show and almost everything else in their world exists because of it. They’ve conquered incredibly difficult obstacles and withstood two decades of separation; now, they are together and are building a real life and a future together. There is nothing that their love cannot withstand.
Jay Halstead & Hailey Upton, Chicago PD – This was voted the favorite One Chicago ‘ship, and it’s easy to understand why — the two have already shown to have an incredible emotional connection. They’ve both tackled their demons and also would do almost anything to protect each other, so it’s easy to understand why so many fans want to see this progress into something more.
Kara Danvers & Lena Luthor, Supergirl – Voted the top Arrowverse ‘ship for the second straight year for good reason — there’s a fantastic relationship here with a lot of depth, understanding and chemistry. Lena brings out a side of Kara that she really cannot share anywhere else, and it’s one of the real benefits of Lena not knowing her other identity. Meanwhile, Kara allows Lena an outlet to be vulnerable and someone more than just a powerful CEO. They are there for each other, through thick and thin.
Lucifer & Chloe, Lucifer – What makes Deckerstar so constantly compelling? A part of it is the humor, and another part of is the passion. This relationship has its ups and downs but moving into season 4, there’s a chance for them too finally have all of their cards on the table. As for what what that looks like, hopefully the premiere episode will give us a good sense!
Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood, Shadowhunters – They’re one of the best examples that in television, you don’t have to manufacture conflict between a couple in order to keep things exciting and romantic. While Malec has been through a lot together, their stability and devotion is inspiring — also, the writers always do a fantastic job of showing the two in normal, intimate moments that any couple would have making them completely relatable to other couples out there watching.
Marty Deeks & Kensi Blye, NCIS: Los Angeles – Given that their wedding is potentially right around the corner, what better time for them to have made it into the final round? They’re a great example of how characters can get together on a show while also not losing the essence of who they are. They have the perfect balance of romance and humor and it’s always fun to see them at work and at play.
Owen Hunt & Amelia Shepherd, Grey’s Anatomy – Obviously, life can be tricky for Omelia on this show. It’s what happens when you go through a split, a reunion, and all sorts of family complications. Yet, there’s such a natural chemistry between these characters and a history of real love. They care deeply about each other and have shown that in a wide array of different ways. Everything that they have gone through has only bonded them together further.
