Jersey Shore stars Pauly D, Vinny Guadagnino land MTV dating show
Now, it seems like the two are going to have their own show in order to make this happen. Today, MTV confirmed that the network is bringing back the franchise A Double Shot of Love, and will put Vinny and Pauly in the lead roles. This show is going to be a variation on the show that starred Erica and Victoria Mongeon a good ten years ago, which was in turn a variation of A Shot of Love, which originally starred Tila Tequila. It’s a little interesting that the network is going back to this particular franchise rather than just creating a new show for Vinny and Pauly, but clearly they think there’s something about this format that works.
How the show will work is simply: There will be twenty contenders for Vinny and Pauly’s heart and each episode, the contestants will do battle hoping to avoid being eliminated; meanwhile, Vinny and Pauly have to do what they can along the way to capture the affection of the people who are cast on the show.
Do we expect any serious relationships to form as a result of this idea? Well, it’s hard to have a lot of confidence just because if you think The Bachelor has a bad track record, these celebrity dating shows are so much worse. Yet, maybe this show will end up being a throwback that leads to more shows in the Rock of Love / Flavor of Love / I Love New York vein. VH1 used to be a hotbed for these sort of celebrity dating shows, though we think over time they did draw diminishing returns.
Ultimately, we see this as MTV just realizing that they want to do something more to continue the Jersey Shore brand. With The Situation in prison, Deena becoming a new mom, Snooki being pregnant again, and Ronnie finding himself at the center of constant headlines, it’s hard to know when the next Jersey Shore Family Vacation is actually going to air. This would allow them a real opportunity to get something else on the air and, for now, that may be an appetizer of sorts for when the next season of that show eventually comes out.
Of course, they also do have to worry about diluting the Jersey Shore brand, something that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble the last time that it was on the air.
