Game of Thrones season 8: Kit Harington talks exhaustion following filming
Speaking in a new interview with GQ Australia, Harington made it clear that the rigors of filming the final six episodes, which were extremely grueling and lasted for many months, made everyone exhausted by the end of it:
“Everyone was broken at the end. I don’t know if we were crying because we were sad it was ending or if we were crying because it was so f—— tiring. We were sleep deprived. It was like it was designed to make you think, Right, I’m f—— sick of this. I remember everyone walking around towards the end going, ‘I’ve had enough now. I love this, it’s been the best thing in my life, I’ll miss it one day – but I’m done.'”
It’s understandable why the sentiment may be this, given the fact that the final episodes feature the largest battle scene in TV history, plus also a number of difficult character moments in harsh conditions. This is meant to be a cold season and because of that, many cast members endured a lot of tough temperatures and remote environments in order to make this show what it is. Game of Thrones tries to be as authentic as a show about dragons and mystical things can be, but there is a little bit of a trade-off that comes along with that in that sometimes, you are putting people through a lot in order to make it happen. Even if the stars are all getting a pretty-hefty chunk of change by the time they reach the end of a series like this, it doesn’t take away from any of the prevailing emotions that you’re feeling in the moment. We feel like, by the end, the cast is motivated more by a desire for completion and creative satisfaction than they even are the money.
