Elementary season 7 debate: How could Detective Bell return?

At the end of this past season of the show, it seemed as though Bell was primed to move forward with a career in the US Marshals and that the writers had effectively set him up with the perfect endgame status. They likely thought for most of the writing process that season 6 could be the end of the road and with that, they wanted to make sure that he was happy.
Now that we’ve got another season, though, the writers have the challenge of trying to bring Bell back into the fold, just like they also have the challenge of trying to figure out precisely what to do with Sherlock and Joan now that they are in the UK.
Luckily, we do think that there is an interesting way to bring Bell into the fold as a Marshal if the writers want to do that — Marshals often do chase down international fugitives with the help of law enforcement elsewhere, and it’s certainly possible that he could turn up in London at some point and request Sherlock and Joan’s help with a case.
If Joan and Sherlock do eventually come back in America, though, maybe Bell determines that he wants to go back to his old job at that point. If he is with the Marshals, after all, it’s hard to imagine that he would be available to work alongside Sherlock and Joan for the bulk of their cases. They may be closer to Gregson in New York, but there is no guarantee that they would be close to him.
Knowing how talented these writers are, we do have some confidence that they could figure out a way to bring Bell back to the NYPD, if the situation called for it, that didn’t feel like he was just backsliding. We do know that this is one of the major concerns that he has on the subject at the moment.
No matter what happens for Bell, we’re pretty sure that the Elementary writers have some plans. After all, they’ve been hard at work at season 7 for quite some time!
