Elseworlds spoilers: Ruby Rose talks taking on Batwoman

Batwoman

The Elseworlds crossover event is going to be airing on The CW in early December, and it’s clear at present Batwoman is a big selling point. Over the course of this upcoming event, you are going to be seeing Ruby Rose take on the famed comic-book role, someone who is confident, determined, and is going to do her best to take on Gotham City.

Of course, there is also the fact that she is openly gay that adds to the character’s iconic status. While there are many other LGBTQ characters within the Arrowverse (whether it be Curtis Holt on Arrow, Alex Danvers on Supergirl, or Sara Lance and Ava Sharpe on Legends of Tomorrow, among others), Batwoman is the most high-profile character of the bunch. Any character that has the bat name in front of it is going to command a great deal of attention.

Going into this role, Rose seems to be ready to take a lot of that on. She understands what this character will mean to viewers at home, and she also understands the excitement that is out there about the role. She can also relate to her on a number of different levels.

Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, here is what Rose had to say about taking out this part:

“The fact that she is an outwardly gay superhero, which is something growing up I would’ve loved to have seen on my TV, was a big deciding factor as to why I was so passionate about the role … This [role] just meant a lot more to me because I could relate in so many ways and, at the same time, felt like this was a job that would give me a purpose every day coming into work beyond just getting to live my dream, which is acting, and would be far more rewarding than anything I’ve done in the past.”

You are going to see Batwoman during the Elseworlds event, but eventually, this is going to lead into her own solo series over on The CW fronted by The Vampire Diaries alum Caroline Dries. there isn’t a whole lot of information as to when this show will air, but with Gotham coming off of the air early next year, this is Warner Bros. TV trying to figure out a way in which to reincorporate some of these characters in however expedient a fashion that they possibly could without sacrificing quality. As for whether or not they were effectively able to do that, we’ll learn more when these episodes actually air.
