Kit Harington did not read Game of Thrones series finale before table read

Game of Thrones

Everyone loves to be surprised in their own way — for Kit Harington, he wanted to remain out of the loop on Game of Thrones for as long as humanly possible. While many actors read the scripts for the final six episodes as soon as they got them, the man behind Jon Snow opted to wait. With that, he decided not to learn the end of the show until he was together with the rest of the cast at the table read.

Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly on the subject of learning the truth about the show, here is what the actor had to say:

“I walked in saying, ‘Don’t tell me, I don’t want to know.’ What’s the point of reading it to myself in my own head when I can listen to people do it and find out with my friends?”

Harington has been a part of this from the very first season, so effectively whatever he is doing as a part of his process is something that we sign off on and then some. He knows the role of Jon Snow backwards and forwards and there is something really lovely in sharing his final moments (regardless of whether he lives or dies) with friends. We’re mostly just surprised that he was able to be patient enough in order to actually wait to read the scripts. If we got them, we would be skimming some of those like nobody’s business — as would most of the internet.

Of course, the irony in saying this is that as a fan, we’d prefer very much to just wait and see the episodes. Since we weren’t there on set or at the table reads, we don’t want some random person online to spoil all the fun.

The final season of Game of Thrones is going to be officially premiering on HBO come the summer of 2019.
