Modern Family season 11 still possible; final season plans not solid yet
Yet, it’s still not clear when a firm determination is going to be made on the series’ future. ABC broadcasts the show from studio 20th Century Fox TV, and while there have been some difficult negotiations in the past, the upcoming acquisition of Fox by Disney changes that. It’s mostly now a matter of creatively figuring the story out, and then also getting the cast on board. Speaking via The Hollywood Reporter, here is what executive producer Steve Levitan had to say on the subject:
“There’s definitely interest from the studio and network and we’re all trying to figure out if that’s what we want to do. There’s a general desire from just about everybody involved to not say goodbye yet. There are a couple hurdles that have to be climbed. We’ll see if it all comes together.”
Levitan did note that in the event there was a season 11 ordered, that for sure would be the last season.
Personally, we’ve thought that Modern Family exhausted most of its notable stories at around season 8, but there’s no denying the talent of most of the cast involved. With that in mind, we wouldn’t be upset if the show stuck around for one more season — if season 10 does end up being the end, we mostly hope that everyone finds out soon enough that they are going to be able to tie things up in a way that feels appropriate. We don’t want this to be a last-minute decision with just a few episodes left in the writers’ room.
