Crossover with JAG, NCIS: Los Angeles still possible in the future

The idea of doing a JAG crossover with the NCIS franchise hasn’t been fully explored in some time — even if some characters from that show have appeared both on the flagship NCIS as well as NCIS: Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, we’ve seen John M. Jackson a number of times on the latter show, and the Bud Roberts character has turned up occasionally on the main series.

We’ve thought for a while that JAG would be the sort of series due for a revival at some point, given that it really set off the series of events that brought us one of the most-successful shows in recent history. Plus, when you think about how long these series have collectively been on the air, it’s longer than many NCIS viewers are old. It’s been an incredible run and it’d be great to see that honored.

What is rather surprising (but nice) to hear about right now is that there were, at least at some point, plans to bring some of the characters from JAG back. This is something that NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R. Scott Gemmill discussed, in the context of Catherine Bell and David James Elliott. Speaking via TVLine, here is some of what he had to say:

“Last year there was a point where Catherine and David were both available, and I was trying to make that work … I forget what episode it was, but I had a little opening, so I had casting check and she was available, and David was available….”

Alas, that appearance ultimately did not come to pass, but it definitely seems like there is still a chance of it taking place moving forward. If the availability comes along again, the fact that this information is now out in the public should offer everyone a good bit of reason to be excited.
