Luther star Idris Elba says ‘no’ to next James Bond rumors
Following some playful teases on social media recently, Elba was asked by Good Morning Britain if one of his roles would be the next James Bond. His answer? “No.” (Side note: It’s pretty funny that Good Morning Britain released a video longer than two minutes to analyze a one-word answer, but here we are).
Does Elba know this for sure? Well, it’s hard to really know anything right now given that there’s no active search for the next Bond. For the most part, the focus is still on figuring out what to do with next film for Daniel Craig — there’s been a lot of chaos around it as of late (director Danny Boyle just stepped down from his role on the film), so it makes sense that most of the focus be on that particular subject. The fate of the next Bond will be decided in the years to come.
While we’d love Idris in the role since he’s an exceptional actor, there’s another important question to wonder right now: Does he really need the part? He already has an awesome career with a number of great credits to his name and even if he never gets this particular role, he already has an established legacy. We also just wonder what it’s like for him to have to deal with questions on this subject for the better part of the last several years — it’s hard to think of an era in which Elba was not asked about whether or not he will be the next Bond.
The new season of Luther is potentially set to premiere later this year, and for the time being, that is the thing that we’re the most excited to see. We’ll have some more news when it comes to this particular subject in the near future over at the link here and with (spoilers ahead) Ruth Wilson leaving The Affair it has gotten our hopes up that maybe she could make a return to Luther. We are fully aware that the show is running with the “Alice is dead” theme at the moment, but we’ve learned that in TV land no one is really dead unless we see the body go in the ground… and some times not even then.
