Better Call Saul season 4 episode 1 video: Gene Takovic returns!

We’ll admit that some of our favorite Better Call Saul scenes are the ones with Gene. Why? There’s still a chance that someday, Jimmy McGill gets some element of redemption because of Gene.

The sneak peek below gives you a sense that a Gene arc could be possible, especially with the way in which they are building this character up. Here, you see the aftermath of Gene’s fainting spell last year, and you also seemingly learn his last name: Takovic (that’s how we are presuming that it is spelled). He checks out from the hospital, and this is a real test of him ensuring that he differentiates his new identity from his old one. Gene is from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond just that, he’s extremely soft-spoken and says each number of his social security in a way where he hesitates before every single digit. It’s such a contrast from the big, bold, and boisterous Jimmy McGill we’ve come to know through the bulk of this story.

What’s on the other side of the hospital? Probably more time at the Omaha Cinnabon, but we do still think that there are some ways to use this character that haven’t been explored. Remember, for example, that Kim Wexler has ties to Kansas City. We still think it’s possible that she turns up in Omaha someday. Our fingers are crossed for it!
